Meet Richard

Richard began playing the Piano at the age of four and was offered a place at the Royal College of Music four years later to study full-time upon reaching the age of eleven. Over a rich career in music, he’s studied under renowned composers like Gavin Bryars, performed for Royal audiences, backed a variety of performers including Jess Conrad, The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and even entered The Eurovision Song Contest. During almost nine years of service in the Army, Richard won the coveted “Cassells” prize for Best All-Round Musician while studying at Kneller Hall – the then Royal Military School of Music.

Richard holds a Fellowship Diploma (F.T.C.L.) in Piano Performance and a Licentiate Diploma (L.T.C.L.) with Distinction – both from Trinity College London.

With a background in classical, jazz, and contemporary styles, Richard’s teaching blends professionalism, creativity, and warmth – helping students of all levels grow with confidence.

Richard also plays professionally in many Bands and as a solo performer – including Tylney Hall Hotel in Hampshire where he and Paul Smith entertain on Sunday afternoons for “Jazz Afternoon Tea”.
